The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has announced a recruitment exercise to fill various positions in the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS). This opportunity is open to suitably qualified candidates seeking full-time appointments. The NCoS, formerly the Nigeria Prisons Service, is a key government agency in charge of managing correctional facilities across the country.
Nigeria Correctional Service Recruitment Positions
Category A: Superintendent Cadre
Superintendent of Prisons (SP) Medical, CONMESS 02 (applicants must possess M.B.B.S., M.D., M.D.S., or equivalent qualifications from recognised universities), Superintendent of Prisons (SP) Veterinary, CONMESS 02 (Candidates must hold D.V.M. degrees from recognised universities), Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP) Pharmacy, CONHESS 09 (a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy is required from recognised institutions), Assistant Superintendent of Prisons I (ASP.I), CONPASS 09 (applicants must have a master’s degree in fields such as Humanities, Social Sciences, Lab Sciences, Architecture, Engineering, Radiology, etc.) and Assistant Superintendent of Prisons II (ASP.II), CONPASS 08 (first-degree holders in disciplines like Humanities, Social Sciences, Psychology, Estate/Town Planning, Public Health, Food Sciences, and Social Works are eligible.)
Category B: Inspectorate Cadre
Senior Inspector of Prisons (SIP), CONPASS 08 (candidates must hold HND certificates from recognised polytechnics or colleges in fields such as Estate Management, Town Planning, Public Health, Food Sciences, and Social Works), Inspector of Prisons (IP) Nursing, CONHESS 06 (must be Registered Nurses (RN), Registered Midwives (RM), or Registered Nurses/Midwives (RNM) from recognised institutions), and Assistant Inspector of Prisons (AIP), CONPASS 06 (OND or NCE qualifications from recognised institutions are required).
Category C: Assistant Cadre
Prisons Assistant I (PAI), CONPASS 05 (Holders of GCE O’Level, SSCE, NECO, or equivalent with a minimum of five credits, including English and Mathematics, or Trade Test Grade I), Prisons Assistant II (PAII), CONPASS 04 (Candidates must possess GCE O’Level, SSCE, NECO, or equivalent with at least five credits, including English, or Trade Test Grade II), and Prisons Assistant III (PAIII), CONPASS 03 (Applicants require a minimum of three credits in GCE O’Level, SSCE, NECO, or equivalent, including English or Mathematics, or Trade Test Grade III).
General NCoS Requirements
- Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth.
- Possession of requisite qualifications and certificates is mandatory.
- Certificates not presented at the recruitment centre will not be accepted post-recruitment.
- Candidates must be medically fit and provide certificates of fitness from government-recognised hospitals.
- Good character is essential, with no criminal convictions.
- Membership in secret societies, cults, or drug addiction is strictly prohibited.
- Financial stability is required.
- Age limit: 18 to 30 years.
- Minimum height: 1.65m for males and 1.60m for females.
- Male chest measurement must not be less than 0.87m.
- Computer literacy is an added advantage.
Nigeria Correctional Service Recruitment Application Process

- Candidates should complete and submit the application form online.
- Referee forms must be downloaded, completed, and submitted during the screening process.
- Multiple applications will lead to automatic disqualification.
Submission Deadline
Applications must be submitted online within six weeks from the date of publication. The deadline for submission is set for September 2024.
