The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has officially opened applications for suitably qualified candidates to fill various vacant positions in its Superintendent, Inspector, and Assistant Cadres. These roles are aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of the Service while providing opportunities for talented Nigerians.

Category A: Customs Superintendent Cadre

Assistant Superintendent of Customs I (ASCII) – Support Staff, CONSOL 08

Applicants for this position must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), or equivalent qualification in one of the following fields. Additionally, candidates must provide an NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate:

Accounts, Audit, Building, Communication, Computer/ICT, Electrical Engineering, Health Information Management, Marine, Nursing, Nutrition/Dietary, Secretarial Studies, Sports, Stores/Procurement, Quantity Surveying, Actuarial Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Law.

Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC) – Support Staff, CONSOL 06

Eligible candidates must possess an Ordinary National Diploma (OND), National Certificate in Education (NCE), or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution in any of the fields listed above.

Customs Assistant (Support Staff) – CONSOL 03, 04

Applicants must hold any of the following qualifications: First School Leaving Certificate, Junior Secondary School Certificate, Senior Secondary School Certificate, or equivalent, along with relevant Trade Test certificates. Clerical Assistants may apply under this category.

Category B: General Duty

Customs Inspector Cadre: Assistant Inspector – CONSOL 06

Candidates must hold OND, NCE, or an equivalent qualification from recognised institutions.

Customs Assistant Cadre

Customs Assistant Grade II – CONSOL 04: Requires SSCE/NECO or GCE with credits in at least three subjects including English and Mathematics, plus passes in two additional subjects obtained in one sitting. Alternatively, candidates can present a GCE Ordinary Level with passes in four subjects, including English and Mathematics, in one sitting or five subjects in two sittings.

Customs Assistant Grade III – CONSOL 03: Applicants must present evidence of completing a government-approved secondary school programme, Junior Secondary School Certificate (JSSC), or Trade Test certificates where applicable.

Nigeria Customs Service General Requirements

All candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Nigerian citizen by birth or descent.
  • Meet height requirements: 1.7 metres for males and 1.64 metres for females. Male candidates must have a fully expanded chest measurement of at least 0.87 metres.
  • Be certified as physically and mentally fit by a government medical officer.
  • Be free from physical or mental disabilities.
  • Possess good character and a clean criminal record.
  • Be free from financial embarrassment.
  • Be computer literate.
  • Provide a state-of-origin certificate signed by the Chairman or Secretary of their Local Government Area. Certificates signed by liaison officers are not acceptable.
  • Inspector and Customs Assistant Cadres require candidates to be between 18 and 25 years old, while Superintendent Cadre applicants must not exceed 30 years.

How to Apply for Nigeria Customs Service 2024

Interested candidates must apply online through the official Nigeria Customs Service Recruitment Portal at https://www.vacancy.customs.gov.ng. Visit the portal and click on “Vacancies” on the homepage. Complete the appropriate application form and submit it online free of charge. Upon submission, an acknowledgment reference number will be provided, which must be quoted in all future correspondence.

    Hard copy submissions to the Customs Headquarters or other formations will not be accepted. Only applications for the advertised positions will be considered. Applications close in May 2024.

    Shortlisted candidates will proceed to the next recruitment phase. Candidates are advised that assessments will be strictly based on the certificates presented during the application process, and no upgrading of qualifications will be entertained before or after recruitment.
